Power door locks have become standard in newer cars and trucks, especially with the now with remote opening systems. Power door locks provide electrical actuation of the door lock mechanism of a motor vehicle, in response to a you pressing a button.
There are two basic types of Door Lock Actuators that can provide power door lock actuation: a solenoid or a motor drive. Because solenoids are frequently noisy and sometimes unreliable, motor drives have become the Door Lock actuator of choice.
Do you have to use your key to lock/unlock the doors Do your door lock buttons not consistently go down or up when the inside lock button is pushed? Do your Door Lock Actuators only sometimes respond, or just one Door Lock Actuator will respond, but not the other. Your Door Lock Actuators are getting tired and need replacing.
Replacement of your Door Lock Actuators is something a DIY sort of person could do him/herself, If your let mechanic do it, I was told labor is 1.5 hours per door and with parts, it's a $500 job!
Door Lock Actuators are not difficult to replace relatively speaking, however in most casses you will need a heavy duty riveter that can handle 1/4" rivets and a drill to take out the old rivet. With some Door Lock Actuators you may have to even remove the latch to get the actuator rod out. |
