I bet everyone is as excited as I am that they can now lookup a RhinoPac (also known as AMS Automotive) clutch kit and flywheel for their car. For example, a lookup for a 2000 Ford Focus brings us: http://www.coolparts.com/products/Rhino_Clutch_Kit-15662-0.html. If knowing the exact part is not great enough, AMS Automotive has supplied us with images for their products, so you can now see what you are ordering before you order it.

One note though: AMS Automotive did not have an image for every single product they have. Some products will have the same image for them even though they are different products. The image is used to give you an idea of the components in your vehicle, and may not represent the exact model of those components.

Your best bet is to call our Customer Support / Sales line at 1-866-480-2751. They have been selling RhinoPac clutch kits and flywheels longer then I have been alive (slight exaggeration). Anyway, use the lookup and let me know if you have any questions or problems.

I’m happy to be posting more then once a month. It has been an extremely exciting September for Coolparts. With that in mind, we have just added Airtex Fuel Pumps and Airtex Water Pumps to our vehicle application search. What this means is that you can now find the water pump and fuel pump that you need for your vehicle.

One of the challenges that the fuel and water pumps presented which were not found elsewhere is the fact that a year, make, model, engine or submodel is not enough to determine which part fits your car. Turns out the 2001 Ford F-150 with a 4.2L engine uses a different fuel pump depending on if its a 2WD or 4D. To correct this, we have added product fit notes which give you more information about the specific part.

Our prices on the water pumps and fuel pumps is awesome as well. For my car (which I always use for pricing), the Fuel Pump Assembly Module is $191.04. RockAuto sells the same part for $236.79. This is in no way a slam on RockAuto. Our water pump prices are even better. A water pump for my 2000 Olds Intrigue is only $37.87.

I am currently working with our very cool sales manager Steve to see what kind of specials/rebates we can do. So far on the radar are free t-shirts or some other cool novelty. Hey it’s free. And anything free is better then nothing.

Look for another update on Friday or Monday.

P.S: If you are actually reading this blog, send me an email at vlad@coolparts.com with your comments, feedback, story ideas, etc.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. We have been very busy adding new manufacturers, images, and product information. We have got done adding monroe shocks, struts, and accessories from Monroe. So now if you drive a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue (like I do), you can easily find that you need the Monroe 71670 (Front) and Monroe 71671 (Rear).Â

While we can’t beat every company on price, I have not found an online retailer with cheaper prcies for Monroe products. For example, the 71670 is $59.53 from Coolparts. $69.75 from AutoBarn. $66.79 from RockAuto. $82.28 from Auto Parts Warehouse.

Selling Monroe makes us happy because not only can we offer our customer the usual benefits of shopping at Coolparts like same day shipping, shipping quote before completing an order, and a real telephone number, but also the best price on the web.

Cheesy headline aside, this question is quite interesting. When is a tool cool? Of course posing the question, I have an answer. A tool is cool when it is high quality, affordable, and useful. With that in mind, I’d love to introduce everyone to some new product lines that you can now buy at Coolparts.

Lisle Corp – Almost every tool that they have is Made in the USA. While I won’t outright say that Made in the USA products are better, its nice to buy a product that supports employment in the states.  Lisle Corp has been making tools for more then one hundred years, and this translates to quality. We have a nice line of the brand new Lisle Specialty Tools.

Wilmar Corp – This is the company that makes the Performance Tools and Mechanic Products product lines. These tools are also incredibly high quality, and dependable. I won’t claim that Performance Tool and Mechanic Tool is the best tool you can buy, but you can put three of them in your toolbox instead of one of the well-known brand names. Wilmar Corp does make tools that are dollar-for-dollar an awesome value. And after looking at other websites, Coolparts offers the best (lowest) price for these products.

Do expect more tools to be added with time. In fact, don’t be too surprised to see a brand new section of Coolparts dedicated to Tools to be open soon. If there is a Lisle or Wilmar tool you need that you don’t see on our site, please let me know and we can help you get it.

Coolparts.com is now compliant with the XHTML 1.0 Transitional standard. Here is a brief introduction to what this compliance is, and what it means to Coolparts.com.

HTML Compliance means that your web-page is formatted in a certain and standard compliant way.  This means that a program like Internet Explorer or Firefox will be able to better render the same page. Also, the rendering of the page will be similir. Note, this is not guaranteed because there are still differences between different browsers.

We decided to make our web pages be XHTML 1.0 Compliant because we wanted additional insurance that all of our visitors would see the same website. Also, going through all the pages to assure the compliance helped us find numerous bugs and errors that were quickly repaired I am still debating on whether to put the XHML 1.0 Compliant sticker on our homepage.

If you have your own homepage, and wish test your website for compliance, go to http://validator.w3.org/. Put in your website URL, and hit Check. You will probably get a page saying that there are 100 errors or mistakes on the page. In actuality, there is less then this. Just that some errors get compounded by other ones and likewise.

Not every single page on Coolparts.com is XHTML 1.0 Compliant. So if you find a page that is not yet compliant, please contact us for a status page.

Thank you
Vlad

Finding the right part is a challenge for most consumers. A lot of our customers that know the exact part they need will usually call or email us, and tell us the exact part number. Other times, the customers might know the name of the part they need, but are not sure of the exact manufacturers part number. I can’t blame them because unless you work in the automotive industry, there is no reason you should have to remember exact part numbers.Â

There are plenty of car sites out there that do an OK job of finding the right part. Usually they will drill you down using Year, Make, Model (not necessiraly in that order), Sub Model. Then they will ask the user to either drill down categories of car parts, or they will present the user with 500 categories that the user must navigate. Some sites implement a search field that allows customers to type it in. Unfortunately, the search is not that great .

One of the main things that we are working on is an improved way to find the right part. Finding the right part should not be a ten step process. Nothing should be a ten step process. I don’t want to give out too many details of what we are planning (just yet).Â

From the consumer side of things, how would you want to find the right car part? Let me know by emailing me, or leaving a comment on the site.
