Website Updates and News

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Hey All,

It’s been a while since I wrote anything on this blog. We have had some very exciting developments on our website and company. Lately, we have taken on GB Remanufactured Fuel Injectors. Also new are Goodyear Belts, Hoses, and Tensioners.

Tools are another favorite of ours. We love selling tools for a few reasons. First of all, the quality of our tools is superb. Some of the people that work here have used our tools for over ten years without any failure. The second awesome part of our tools is the price. The cost of these tools just blow the competition out of the water. In regards to tools, we have added new Performance Tech sets. They are complete tool sets built for a specific purpose.

Please look forward to more products on our website. We are currently working on Bendix, Fram, and Autolite. Also, look out for some green Jeep Wrangler parts. Please check our website often for great deals and super specials.

New Parts

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Hey All,

Since the new year we have been busy adding new parts.  One thing that I am incredibly stoked about is our Proform parts.  Proform has over 900 parts in over a hundred categories so it is hard to categories it all.  What I decided to do is add the parts, and then categorize them.  All with a pretty descent description, and product images.  If you want, you can download a PDF catalog of Proform parts.  Once you find a part you want, call us up and we will give you the lowest price possible.  As always, if you find the part cheaper somewhere on the internet, let us know.  We will almost always beat it or match it.

The second list of parts we added is Edelbrock parts.  If you go back in the archives, you will see that we had Edelbrock parts on before, but just like Proform they were not categorized and had lousy descriptions.  If you don’t find the Edelbrock part you want, you can call us and chances are we have it.  If we don’t have it in-stock, we can always order it in.

I just found a product that we have four left over that we’d love to close out.  The product is a 7 1/2″ Electric Polisher.  We normally sold it for $64.99, but are currently lowering it to $54.99 just to sell it off.  If you’d like one, I recommend getting one now because the next home for these will be EBay.

A Year in Review

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Hey All,

We have been extremely busy here at Coolparts.  Since today is our first day back from our new years vacation, i’d love to take a quick look at this year’s accomplishments.

1. Published a new website
2. Currently selling over 40,000 products  on our website most with correct images and weights.
3. Products categorized in 178 different categories.
4. Have 30 manufacturers on our website.  A lot of manufacturers have a specific vehicle application search when applicable.
5. Improved the speed of the site to make it even faster to browse.

Just  because 2007 was a good year for us, does not mean we are slowing down at all.  In fact 2008 plans to be an even bigger year.  We have numerous things on our plates right now.  We want to continue our goal of getting the best values and passing them on to our customers.  We want to continue to offer you the right part for your vehicle.  Here is a short list of things expected in the first quarter of 2008.

1. A section of our site built just to let our customers buy an existing engine kit, or customize one.
2. More products, images, and other information.
3. Consolidated search that will allow you to search every single part for your specific vehicle from just one search.
4. More blog postings.

Anyhow, we at Coolparts and our sister site Northern Auto Parts would like to thank everyone for making 2007 a great year.  We are confident that 2008 will be even better.

Moog Chassis, Steering, and Suspension

Monday, November 19th, 2007

We are proud to finally have our Moog products up and searchable.  Images have been very kindly provided by Moog as well.  To find the right Moog part for your car, go to our search page at http://www.coolparts.com/pages/moog.html.  If you would like to just search for coil springs specifically, go to http://www.coolparts.com/catalog/143/.  Our prices for Moog items (especially coil springs is awesome).

Moog Coil Spring# 6312 is 66.79 at Rock Auto.   It’s only 89.95 at Summit Racing (Notice the sarcasm).   You can buy it at Coolparts for a low price of 61.69.  This is not a special part number that we discounted for the sake of comparison.  All of our Moog coil springs are priced just as competitively.

Our price is so low because initially we would offer our customers a bonus for buying two pairs (four coil springs).  Then customers began asking us to give them the same discount if they only buy one pair.  And that was the start of that.

Diesel Head Stud Kits

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Alot of the diesel customers are going to head stud kits. ARP has this available and the prices have been coming down because of competition.

ARP 250-4201 Powerstroke 7.3 sells for $539.99 at Northernautoparts.com

KYB Shocks and Struts

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Customer choices are important. Monroe is the most well-known brand for shocks and struts in the country. Their is no question about quality in there product. Also, the vehicle coverage Monroe offers is spectacular. If your car has shocks or struts, chances are that Monroe has them available. But not everyone prefers Monroe…

Coolparts is now happy to be selling KYB Shocks, Struts, and accessories. We have a parts lookup for them as well so you don’t need to have the exact product name you want. While KYB is a lesser-known brand name then Monroe, they offer an incredibly high-quality product, and a lifetime warranty on all shock absorbers, struts, and strut cartridges (with a few exceptions of course). KYB offers four different kinds of shocks.

KYB GR-2 / Excel-G shocks, struts and cartridges restore handling and control. Designed with vehicle-specific components and valinving. They are calibrated to compensate for worn suspensions. Built with quality that matches or exceeds OE. Coverage for domestic and import cars, trucks, and SUVs.

KYB Gas-a-Just monotube shocks increase performance and stability. The newest concept in ride control. They feature a more responsive design which automatically adjusts to driving conditions. Ideal as a replacement for an OE monotube or as an upgrade from a twin-tube. Applications for cars, trucks, vans, and SUV’s.

KYB MonoMax Heavy Duty monotube shocks provide maximum control for trucks and SUV’s. They are a stronger more durable truck shock. The right choice for hauling, towing, or plowing. They are ideal for diesel trucks, vans, and SUVs, including lifted and lowered vehicles.

KYB AGX manually adjustable shocks, struts, and cartridges offer fast on-car adjustment. They allow quick easy damping rate changes to match driving preferences, without lifting vehicle or removing tires. The AGX offers a wide range of damping rates from street to ship. Perfect for enthusiasts and high performance drivers. Available for domestic and import cars.

A blog posting describing Monroe’s product lines is in order, and coming :-)

Exciting New Developments

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

I’m happy to be posting more then once a month. It has been an extremely exciting September for Coolparts. With that in mind, we have just added Airtex Fuel Pumps and Airtex Water Pumps to our vehicle application search. What this means is that you can now find the water pump and fuel pump that you need for your vehicle.

One of the challenges that the fuel and water pumps presented which were not found elsewhere is the fact that a year, make, model, engine or submodel is not enough to determine which part fits your car. Turns out the 2001 Ford F-150 with a 4.2L engine uses a different fuel pump depending on if its a 2WD or 4D. To correct this, we have added product fit notes which give you more information about the specific part.

Our prices on the water pumps and fuel pumps is awesome as well. For my car (which I always use for pricing), the Fuel Pump Assembly Module is $191.04. RockAuto sells the same part for $236.79. This is in no way a slam on RockAuto. Our water pump prices are even better. A water pump for my 2000 Olds Intrigue is only $37.87.

I am currently working with our very cool sales manager Steve to see what kind of specials/rebates we can do.  So far on the radar are free t-shirts or some other cool novelty.  Hey it’s free.  And anything free is better then nothing.

Look for another update on Friday or Monday.

Books are Cool. Sorta

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Tired of the “cool” lines yet?  I’m not.  Coolparts.com now has 79 cool books.  These books cover a range of topics from Welding guides, Brake guides, Fords, Mopar, Imports, Volkswagens, etc.  If you need it, chances are we have a book for it.  These books are all published by HP Books.  Some of the books we have include:

Dorman OE Solutions

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Dorman has a product line called “OE Solutions”. Some of the products in the OE Solutions product line include Axle Shafts, Cam Synchronizer (hard to spell), control arms, manifolds, balancers, fans, etc. The list is really longer then this but I dont want to repeat it all. Anyhow, thanks to the awesome folks at Dorman we have compiled a list of vehicle application data for Dorman OE Solutions parts.

In other words, if you are looking for a control arm for your 2000 Olds Intrigue (my car), you can just click on the Dorman picture, put in your year, make, model, submodel (optional), and it will show you the control arms that fit your car.

The next feature we are working on is that when you pick the category of car part you want (Camshaft Synchronizer for example), a search box will come up as well and let you find that part. If you prefer to browse for a specific car part, you can click that part on the left hand menu (yes, a camshaft synchronizer again) and then you will see a selection box for the year, make, model, submodel search only for that specific part.  At present, this works only for Dorman but we will slowly be implementing it for our K&N, Edelbrock, and Proform.

One of the main challenges we have had is that each four of these manufacturers has provided the data in a different format.  So for example, one might have Ford F-150 as a make  and model, while another one might have Ford F-150 Pickup as a make and model.  Some parts are specific to your engine, some to the submodel.  Combining these into one application search that actually works is a huge undertaking.  But it’s something we are slowly chipping away it.

Their are probably going to be some bugs on the website.  If anybody has any feedback on the search, or comments, please contact us or leave a comment.  Thank you for your continued support.

Product References are Cool

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Since the start of the site, I have always thought hard on how to differentiate ourselves from the competition.  There are plenty of differences already, but most of them are things most people never think about.  For example, we provide a true toll-free number that you can call to take your order.  And I say true, because a lot of places have a number that either puts you on hold for ten minutes, or takes you straight back to voice mail.  Good luck getting a call back.

Another difference between us and a lot of the competition is that we have a real warehouse.  Sixty thousand square feet of it.  When you place your order on the site, we process it the same day, and 99% of orders will get shipped out that same day.  If we ever have to put any of your parts on backorder, we’ll tell you.

Now back to the latest website change.  A lot of our product listings are now going to have product references.  For example, when I looked up a replacement air filter for my old car, a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, I got the following listing: http://www.coolparts.com/products/Replacement_Air_Filter-466-0.html.  When I click on that, it showed me the product information, and a link to download an installation guide.  Currently we have it for our K&N parts, but Edelbrock is next.

Besides product references, be on the lookup for a knowledge base.  If you would like to contribute anything to our knowledge base or have an article that you think we could publish on the Coolparts.com site, please email me at vlad@coolparts.com.
